I'm Mel Mbithe, a licensed psychologist and psychotherapist offering decolonial, trauma-informed and somatic therapy to individuals, couples, groups, organizations, and fellow practitioners in Nairobi, and online for clients anywhere in the world, including Kenyans in the diaspora.
Who This Is For
Individuals & Couples
Whether you're grieving a loss, healing relational wounds, working through childhood or sexual trauma, or simply want to look after your mental wellbeing, I'm here for that. I also work with couples and co-parents, and offer queer-affirming therapy for queer individuals and couples, online or in person.
Organizations & Teams
If your team is stretched thin or going through a difficult change, I can come in and help. I run mental wellness days and workshops, offer one-to-one sessions for staff, and support human rights defenders (HRDs) carrying the weight of their work.
Fellow Therapists
If you're a therapist looking to grow your skills or find your people, there's room for you here. I run masterclasses, offer a clinical forms pack, and coordinate a peer supervision community of about 90 practitioners.
Guided Journals
If you're looking for something to work with on your own, at your own pace, my guided journals give you prompts and exercises for reflecting, healing your inner child, and planning your days with more intention. They also work well alongside therapy.
About Me

I'm Mel Mbithe Kioko, a licensed psychologist and psychotherapist based in Nairobi and the founder of Mindful Psychotherapy Services Ltd (Licence No. C&P/P/0609/1085).
Before starting this practice, I spent three and a half years inside Nairobi County's mental health system working in clinics, including leading the county's first outpatient rehabilitation facility for alcohol addiction as its lead psychologist. My practice today is decolonial, feminist, trauma-informed, and body-aware.
I'm currently completing my MA in Counselling Psychology, and I'm enrolled in Dr. Jennifer Mullan's year-long Decolonizing Therapy foundation series, deepening the frameworks I bring into the room.
I'm the first woman in my family line to build something of my own, full-time. I'm also a co-founder of the Affirming Wellness Collective, a feminist practitioner collective, and I coordinate a peer supervision community of about 90 practitioners. I especially love working with women, queer folks, and clients who've felt therapy wasn't built with them in mind.
Outside the therapy room, I tend a small farm in Kangundo, growing fruit trees, roses, and vegetables, and I crochet, arrange flowers, do yoga, and box.
How I Can Help
You don't have to have it figured out to begin.
Maybe someone you love is gone, and the grief still has no words, just a heaviness you carry into every room. Maybe you keep ending up in the same argument, with the same kind of person, wondering why it always feels so familiar. Maybe something happened to you as a child, or something was done to your body that you've never said out loud, and it still shapes how you trust, love, or rest. Maybe your body is tired in a way sleep doesn't fix, or you feel far from home, from your people, from the person you used to be.
You can come in saying "I don't know what's wrong, I just know something is." That is enough. I'll meet you there.
